Bantwal: Landslip at construction site in B C Road - one dead

Bantwal, Jan 28: One worker died due to landslip that occurred at a construction site at B C Road here on Monday January 28.
The deceased has been identified as Sharath (22), son of Ramanna Poojary from Kakkepadav.
Work on the construction of a convention hall has been going on in front of Chandikaparameshwari Temple in B C road. As no adequate precautionary measures were taken in advance, the incident is said to have taken place.
The incident took place at around 2.50 pm. Workers Harish, Achutha, Nitish, Jagadish and Sharath were working on pillar installation when the landslip occurred. While Sharath was trapped, the others managed to escape.
Fire brigade along with police officials after one-and-a-half hour battle retrieved Sharath's body.
As there was no ambulance available, the inspector shifted the body to government hospital in his jeep. Hundreds of people gathered at the spot.
Bantwal circle inspector Anil S Kulkarni, sub inspector Shekar, fire brigade officials were present and a case has been registered in the Bantwal town police station.
Sharath is the eldest among three children to Ramanna and Bhavani. His two sisters are studying. Sharath joined work after his class 7 studies to support his family, said sources.
Anger over 108 ambulance
As soon as the landslide was reported to 108 ambulance, it reached the spot even before the fire brigade could arrive. But by the time Sharath's body was retrieved, the ambulance disappeared from the place, which enraged the residents.
