Mexican soccer club's bus seized over tax dispute

Mexico City, Jan 26 (IANS/EFE): Mexican authorities impounded a bus and some office furniture belonging to Atlas soccer club in connection with a tax dispute, the team's management said Friday.

The tax service says Atlas owes the treasury 4.6 million pesos ($365,000), a claim the club disputes.

Atlas took the matter to court and won a favorable judgment, but the government appealed and implemented the asset embargo pending a final ruling in the case.

The club said it expects to recover the bus and office furniture once it offers the government "supplementary" sureties for the ostensible tax debt.
