Udupi, Jan 26: The stage is set for the 14th anniversary celebrations of Daiji Dubai, a forum of Konkani writers in the UAE, with unprecedented last-minute response promising a packed house for the event.
This is for the first time in the history of Daiji Dubai that the grand anniversary event is being organized outside Dubai. The event will be held on Republic Day, Saturday January 26 at Poorna Prajna auditorium, Udupi, 4 pm onwards.
The special attraction of the event will be 'Aami Nathlyaa Vellar', the super hit drama translated into Konkani by Richard Pereira from Ramanda Choorya's Kannada play 'Naavilladaga', originally written in Marathi in the 1960s by Madhusudhan Kelkar.
The entire troupe has come from Dubai to stage the play, including musicians and the technical team. The play, performed by amateur actors, became an instant hit in Dubai last April.
The 1000-plus capacity Poorna Prajna College auditorium is already sold out, according to the organizers. Those who waited till the last moment to book the ticket had to face great disappointment.
During the event, the 14th Daiji Dubai Annual Literary Award will be conferred on renowed Konkani writer and activist Dr Edward Nazareth.
Bishop of Udupi Dr Gerlad Lobo, Udupi-Chikmagalur MP J P hegde and NRE entrepenuer Ronald Colaco will be the chief guests during the event.
Rohan Monteiro of Rohan Corporation and Joseph Mathias of Merit Freight Dubai will be the guests of honour
A collection of Konkani short stories by 14 Daiji Dubai annual literary award winners, published by Daiji Publication, will be released by Konkan Myna Meena Rebimbus.
As people are expected from far-off places across the twin districts, the programme will start at sharp 4 pm and conclude at 8.30 pm.
Organizers have informed that no responsibility will be taken for the seating arrangements of those who arrive late.
