Udupi: Kabbadi champion Mamatha Poojary ties nuptial knot

Udupi, Jan 23: India's pride Mamatha Poojary, captain of the national women's Kabaddi team tied the knot with Abhishek Kotian from Udyavar at a grand ceremony held at Hotel Kidiyoor here on Wednesday January 23.
The ceremony was attended by scores of relatives, friends and well-wishers of the couple. Local politicians like Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary were also spotted wishing the couple.
Mamatha, who hails from Hermunde in Karkala taluk, is the daughter of Bhoja and Kitti Poojary. Abhishek is the son of Udyavar Sanjeeva and Indira, and works in a software company in Bangalore.
The couple got engaged in October last year.
Speaking to reporters, a glowing Mamatha, dressed in a traditional maroon and golden saree, said that her wedding is the most important day of her life and will remain so. "I am very happy today. This is a very special day of my life. So many people have gathered to wish me, which makes me very happy," she said.
Abhishek, who was all smiles, told reporters that they have planned a trip to Thailand soon. On Mamatha, he said it was not only her skills as a sportsperson that attracted him, but also her character. "There is more to Mamatha than just her status as captain of Indian Kabaddi team. It is her character that I like most."
When asked whether Mamatha would continue to play after marriage, he said, "Yes, I have no problem. She will play as long as she wants, and I will fully support her."
Over a thousand people attended the wedding ceremony and wished the couple.
