Karkala: Two-day festival radiates splendour of classical music

Karkala, Jan 23: Shastriya Sangeetha Sabha (R) in association with Shree B Manunath Pai Cultural Foundation organized a two-day National Music Festival recently.
Artistes of national and international fame - both vocal and instrumental - Hindustani and Carnatic styles performed on both days and enthralled a good number of quality audience assembled in the Manjunath Pai Cultural Auditorium, here.
On day one, K Arun Puranik, former president of the Sabha along with Prabhakar Marathe inaugurated the festival by lighting the lamp.
President of Sabha S Nityananda Pai, secretary Dr Prakash Shenoy and treasurer Prabhakar Pandit were also present on the dais.
The inaugural programme was followed by Carnatic flute concert by Krishnapawan Kumar from Mangalore and the Carnatic vocal by N Saketaraman from Chennai/Bangalore.
On January 20, a day-long Hindustani classical music festival was organized.
Pandit Bhimanna Jadhav from Solapur gave an enchanting SUNDARI (a rare instument - a shorter of Shehanai) recital followed by Hindustani Vocal by Sumedha Desai from Goa. Manoj Acharya from Karkala (a disciple of Late Ustad Alla Rakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain) gave an excellent tabla solo. Koushik Aithal from Bangalore presented a memorable Hindustani Vocal concert. Sitar duet by Guru Ustad Rafique Khan and disciple Ankush N Nayak was very well rendered.
H Gopala Bhandary, MLA of Karkala presided over the concluding ceremony in the evening. V Sunil Kumar, former MLA, B Nagendra D Pai and B Ananth G Pai -trustees of Shree B Manunath Pai Cultural Foundation were the chief guests.
Pt Raghunandan Panshikar gave a scintillating Hindustani vocal concert to conclude the music festival. Top class accompanists participated on both days.
Rangoli on the late Pt Ravishankar by Soorya Purohit, an artiste of Karkala was the special attraction in the venue.
