Mangalore: 5,000 students to depict India's unity on Republic Day

Mangalore, Jan 23: As many as 5,000 children from 23 schools across the district will perform on the theme ‘National Integration’ during the 64th Republic Day celebration to be held at Nehru Maidan here on Saturday January 26.
It is for first time in the city that such a large number of children are participating in Republic Day celebrations.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Y Shivaramaiah, Mangalore North block education officer said that out of 5,000 participating children, around 2,500 from 13 schools will render their voice for 10 patriotic songs namely ‘Saare Jahnse Accha’, ‘Pillalara Papallara’, ‘Onde Onde Navu’, ‘Yedegalu Nooraru’, ‘Hum Honge Kamiyaab’ and others from Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Sanskrit languages.
In addition, another 2,500 students divided in groups of 250 to 300 will dance to the patriotic songs.
Practice and preparations for the big day has been going on in full swing in the respective schools for the last one and a half months, and the rehearsal was held at Nehru Maidain on January 21 and 22.
Commenting on the concept, the BEO said a similar kind of programme was organized in Mysore six years ago by NCERT. "Some of the ideas were taken from Balakrishna who helped in organizing the event in Mysore. He was in the city to help us in organizing this programme," the BEO said.
The deputy commissioner, RTO, city corporation, Rohini, information officer, Moses Jayashekar, deputy director of public instructions and others have given full support by making the necessary arrangements, he added.
