Dubai, Jan 19: As part of their Silver Jubilee celebration Mangalore Konkans, Dubai announces the most awaited community sports event “KONKAN SPORTS MEET 2013” on 8th February 2013.
The sports meet will be held at the lush green grounds of the Higher Colleges of Technology, Dubai Mens College at Silicon Oasis in Dubai. Mangalore Konkans Dubai being pioneers in the field of community development projects has the credit of organizing the first ever Sports day in the UAE for the Konkan people and carries on the tradition of doing so once in every two years.
About the Sporting Event
The meet will include individual track and field events for all ages besides generation relay and tug of war for group. This event is open to all Konkani speaking people or those from Konkan origin. Entry is free for all track events (Except for Tug of war).
The organizers claim to create an opportunity & provide a platform for people to excel in sports and earn recognition for their sporty talents and achievements. This event also opens an avenue for the most needed family outing, encourage fellowship, relieve stress and help to recognize the need for physical fitness.
The meet is scheduled to start at 9 am for networking followed by warm up session. The track and field events are expected to begin at 10 am and wind up by 6 pm. Light lunch will be served to all who attend the meet.
Qualified referees will officiate the event. There will also be enough play area for small children.

About Mangalore Konkans
Mangalore Konkans, established in 1988 is affiliated to the Indian Community Welfare Committee (ICWC) of the Indian Consulate in Dubai. This association has been serving the community for the past 24 years and is known for organising successful musical and social events, knowledge based seminars and promoting talents, Konkani language and Mangalorean Culture. It is also known for its philanthropic activities in India such as providing financial support for the under privileged students for higher education and financial aid for deserving patients in and around Mangalore.
