Mangalore: Top Ministers, Bureaucrats Attend High-Profile Wedding of Oscar's Son

Mangalore, Jan 17: The who's who of the world of politics and beaureaucracy descended on the city on Wednesday January 16 to attend the high-profile wedding of Oshan, the son of former union minister and Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes.

The wedding, held at Milagres Church, was followed by a grand and glittering reception at Ladies Club at Light House Hill.

Among the guests were governor H R Bhardwaj, union ministers Rehman Khan, Mallikarjuna Kharge, Dr M Veerappa Moily, K H Muniyappa, Satyanarayan, Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chauhan, Arunachal CM Nabam Tuki, KPCC president Dr Parameshwar, leader of state opposition Siddaramaiah, B K Harisprasad, Maharashtra minister Suresh Shetty, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress president Kripasingh Thakur, Kerala Congress president Ramesh Chennittala, Sudhakar Reddy, former chief minister Dharam Singh, Guruprasad Kamath, Shyamnoor Shivashankarappa, former union minister Jagadish Tytler.

Archbishop of Bangalore Dr Bernard Moras and Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza also blessed the newly-married couple.

Oshan Fernandes, a marketing executive in Delhi, tied the knot with Frazil, a chartered accountant student hailing from Udyavar, Udupi.

Several other political leaders including Ramanath Rai, Janardhan Poojary, J P Hegde and others also attended the wedding and conveyed their best wishes to the couple.

    Indeed it is a great society wedding. I have had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Oscar Fernandes' family for over seventy years and Blossom's family too for the past several decades. Mr. Rock Fernandes - Mr. Oscar Fernandes' father had built a great name for himself as well known educationalist in Udupi having been The Head Master of The Government High School over there. His wife Lennibai as she was popularly known could be termed as the woman behind the successful man. She was a bold politician. They were both kind and hospitable to me during my visits their place in Ajjarkad, Udupi. Blossom's parents to were well known in Mangalore. Her father being a planter of repute and her mother indeed a very good home maker.

    What is great about Mr. Oscar Fernandes is the fact that despite his high position he has retained that simplicity of heart and mind - perhaps the qualities he has imbibed from his parents.

    Whereas I was looking forward to attend the roce and the wedding due to my sudden illness I was not able attend the functions. My good feelings and thoughts of course are with the Farnandes family.

    It is my thought and wish that the young lady who has entered the household of The Farnandes' will in fact be not a daughter-in-law but virtually a daughter.

    My wife Irene joins me in extending our warmest wishes to Mr. and Ms. Farnandes, their son and the young lady who has now become a part of their family.
