Kundapur: Two Youngsters Drown in Sowparnika River

Kundapur, Jan 13: In a tragic incident, two teenagers met watery grave while swimming with their friends at Aloor here on Sunday January 13.
The deceased have been identified as Shivraj Shetty (18), son of Sitaram and Rajivi Shetty; and Dhanraj Shetty (14), son of Ravindra and Shilvati Shetty.
At around noon, Shivraj and Dhanraj along with three of their friends went for a swim in Sowpanika river near Huntana Godi, Durgaparameshwari Temple. The others in the group were Sampanna, Sachin and Kapil from Aloor. Sachin and Sampanna are studying in Delhi and had come down on holidays.
Even while they were swimming, Shivraj and Dhanraj got washed away in the currents. Though locals rushed to their rescue, they could not be saved.
Shivraj was pursuing first year of diploma in engineering at RNS College, Murdeshwar. He leaves behind his parents and sister Shilpa who is studying in Bhandarkar's College, Kundapur.
Dhanraj was in the 8th standard at VKR School, Kundapur. He is survived by his parents and sister Dhanya who is in 3rd standard at Padukone school.
SI Sampath Kumar arrived at the spot.
A case has been registered in Gangolli police station.
