Argentina Defender Monzon Signs Fluminense Deal

Rio de Janeiro, Jan 12 (IANS): Brazilian football club Fluminense has signed Argentina international defender Luciano Monzon on a six-month loan deal from Lyon, the French club confirmed.

The 25-year-old has had limited opportunities under Lyon manager Remi Garde this season, having arrived at the club from Ligue 1 rivals Nice in August last year, reports Xinhua.

"We are going to loan Monzon to Fluminense, who will also have the option of buying him," Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas said in comments published on Lyon's official website Friday.

"He hasn't been playing and this will give him an opportunity. It's a loan that will be in effect until July 31 with Fluminense having the possibility of purchasing the player until June 30."

Under terms of the agreement, Fluminense will not pay a signing fee for the left-back. Lyon will benefit by not having to pay the player's wages with the added possibility of his value rising while in Brazil.

Monzon, who began his professional career with Buenos Aires giants Boca Juniors, has won seven caps for Argentina since making his international debut in 2009.
