Karkala: Annual Feast of Attur Church from Jan 29 to 31

Karkala, Jan 11: The famous Karkala - Attur St Lawrence Church Annual Feast-2013 will be held from Tuesday January 29 to 31, said sources in Attur Church.

The fest will be held on the theme of 'Lord, Enhance our Trust'. In all, 30 sacred masses will be offered during three days. Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore will offer mass at 6 pm on January 29.

Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi dioicese will offer the mass on Wednesday January 30 at 10 am.

On Thursday January 31, newly appointed vicar general of Udupi Diocese Mnsgr Baptist Menezes will offer the mass at 10 am.

Several priests and nuns are expected to partake in the religious ceremony during the fest.

There will be a special prayer for the sick by Fr Alban D'Souza, parish priest of Kalmady.

Novena for the fest will begin on January 20 at 8.30 am.

    For the first time in our life we were able to pay a visit to St. Lawrence Church at Karkal. It was an interesting and valuable visit indeed. Irt happened to be a Thursday morning and there was a liturgical service that was going on there, and we took part in the services. We had some American friends with us , and they too were impressed with the beautiful architecture of thechurch, and also the wonderful choir that was going on in the church. After the church service there was a lunch being served in the facilities behind and were tempted to join the long queue because we felt hungry with nice flavour of the food, but we were hesitant. Instead we visited the nearby pool of miracles and spent some quiet time in prayer.

    On our next visit to Karkal any time in January we will be happy to spend a good bit of time and take part in the festivals. Its always nice to take part in so many devotional programs taking place all over in India and enjoy the prayers, rituals and music in different languages.

    Our American friends thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Karkal that also included the Gomateshwara as well as the nearby ancient temple.

As we all believe, there is only one God irrespective of the religious beliefs and practices we maintain - God is everywhere. To enlighten your daughter, you will find books at the Church Stalls that give a lot of insight on St. Lawrence and the church history. Like you, my husband and I have visited a lot of temples when we pray we pray to one God. All saints (irrespective of religion)intercede for us through their intercession - it is our belief - that we seek favours from God. Wish you and your family good health, Happiness and Peace

    St.Lawrence Church..I visited this holy church with my wife and 2 children on my last vacation (Nov'12).I wanted to show some historical places to my children.I decided to take them to Gomateshwara,Karkala.Before going I gave some idea about Gomateshwara and narrated story.When I reached top of the hill,my daughter said "this is fantastic,can we see any other place here.?.Suddenly,Attur church struck me.We went there.Being a Hindu, I don't know anything about St Lawrence.So when my daughter asked story about him I was helpless.But said " Pray ,your prayer will be answered"..But still feeling guilty that I didn't see inside the church.I badly needed a christian friend that time.But we prayed infront of the staute and miracle pond.Last week I SAW ST LAWRENCE IN MY DREAM..Today I am reading about Attur church in Daiji..Does he want me to visit his place again ? or is he angry that I didn't go inside the church?..I DON'T KNOW..can anyone calrify my doubt?

    I visit this place , when m sad , confused and to thank !. St lawrence interceds and prays for us. And also lets not forget to respect Holy Trinity first , and abstain from calling ' karlada dever'. St lawrense is special for his martyrdom and immence faith , which puts onus on pilgrims to be more humble and do sacrifice during visit .
