Mangalore, Jan 11: The massive fire that raged in Primacy Industries candle factory late night on Thursday January 10 continued into Friday January 11 morning.
Though most of the fire has been extinguished, many parts of the factory are still in flames and a few fire tenders are still at the spot. The factory has been almost reduced to ashes. As candles and wax were stored in the factory, the flames spread quickly giving fire personnel a tough time.
Speaking to Daijiworld, president of Primacy Industries Ltd V K Thalithaya said that the fire sparked off in the basement of the factory and was noticed by the security personnel at around 11 pm on Thursday night. They immediately alerted the officials who in turn called the fire and police personnel.
He further said that the incident has caused an estimated loss of Rs 50 crore.
Asked about the cause for the fire, he said that the exact reason is not yet known, and that the matter was being investigated by the fire department.
"The cause will be known only after an investigation by the fire department officials," he said.
On the current status of the rescue operation at the site, he said two fire tenders are at the spot and some of the parts of the factory are still in flames.
The fire department informed Daijiworld that altogether, 14 fire engines were rushed to the spot, including one from Udupi, three from Pandeshwar, two from Kadri, and one each from Moodbidri, Karkala, Bantwal, Puttur, Kudremukh, NMPT, MCF and MRPL.
The fire department personnel said that the process is still on, and it would take at least two or three more hours to completely extinguish the fire.
Workers employed at the factory gathered at the premises on Friday morning and expressed their grief over the tragedy that has snatched away their livelihood.

Mangalore, Jan 11: A major fire has engulfed Primacy candle factory at Baikampady here on Thursday January 10 night.
The fire was noticed at around 10.45 pm.
Fire tenders from across the city including NMPT and MRPL were rushed to the spot. However, in spite of intense efforts, the fire has been raging on past midnight and is yet to be brought under control.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
It is said that during this time of the year, there are no night shifts at the factory, hence not many were around. At around 10.45 pm, the fire was spotted by the watchman who immediately alerted the authorities who in turn called the fire and police personnel.
Though people gathered in large numbers, they were prevented by the police from getting close to the factory premises.
