Another Rape Attempt: Three Men in Police Net

Sulliapadav (Kasargod), Jan 10: The Delhi gang-rape case which awakened the conscience of the nation seems to have resulted in more number of sexual crimes coming to light in the recent days. Whether such incidents have increased of late, or more number of victims are finding courage to file complaints, one can only speculate.
In yet another case of alleged rape, three men from Kasargod on Tuesday January 8 became the guests of Eshwaramangala police station.
It is said that in Kerala - Karnataka border, at a place called Kulada Paare near Sulliapadav, three men attempted to rape a woman on the pretext of asking her water to drink. When the woman began to shout, people nearby rushed to her rescue and tried to catch the accused. Even as they ran for their lives, one of the men tripped and fell, injuring his foot. The locals then surrounded the men and rounded them up.
The accused were identified as Abubakker, Shabeer and Kabeer from Kasargod.
The incident took place under the limits of Adoor police but the complaint was filed in Eshwaramangala police station. ASI Vittal Shetty later said that the case will be transferred to Adoor police.
Around 15 people reportedly employed in a quarry have been staying near Sulliapadav. The locals claim that their behaviour has been suspicious. Police have now been urged to inquire into the workers' actvities, and at the same time, police have asked the locals to report any suspicious behaviour.
