Sullia: Surveyor Caught Red-Handed while Accepting Bribe in a Bar

Sullia, Jan 9: Mangalore Lokayukta police on Tuesday January 8 caught a land surveyor red-handed while accepting bribe in bar near here.
The surveyor has been identified as Sharath Kumar (34). He was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 2,800 from Padmanabha of Aletti gram.
As per the information received, on December 12, Padmanabha had placed an appeal to measure his land and on December 29, Sharath Kumar visited the spot and did the land survey. It is learnt that after the survey, Sharath had asked for Rs 6,000 as bribe for surveying the land.
In this regard, Padmanabha already made a part payment of Rs 3,200. Sharath was regularly asking for the remaining money and said that he would give him the survey documents only if he made full payment.
Hence, on advice of a lawyer, Padmanaba complained to Lokayukta police and as per their order on Tuesday, he went to a bar to submit the remaining sum.
Accused Sharath Kumar was working as a surveyor in Sullia for the past 3 years. He is a resident of Chennapattana. Sources said that Lokayukta police had raided the land department at Sullia and seized documents based on the complaints given by people.
Lokayukta SP Mohan Das, DYSP Vittaldas Pai, Inspectors – Umesh Shet, Dilip Kumar, other officials like Sudarshan, Balachandra, Sudhakar, Sharath, Salim, Lokesh, Madhushankar, Rajesh and Shivaprasad were part of the investigation.
