Mangalore: Zero Tolerance Towards Abuse of Women in Colleges - HRD Minister

Mangalore, Jan 4: Pallam Raju, union HRD minister during his visit to the city on Friday January 4 held a meeting with various college management committees at Circuit House here.
Addressing the media later, Pallam Raju said there will be zero tolerance toward miscreants harassing women in colleges. "In this regard, the institution heads should take strict action," he added.
When asked about alleged saffronization of textbooks in the state, he said the syllabus mainly depends on the state. "We can only give guidelines to them and caution them when they are wrong, but the main role is to be played by state education board," he said.
Pallam Raju in reply to a query about the long-pending demand of SC-ST reservation in private sector jobs, said that it is mainly up to the government to decide.
He further said more focus will be give to ensure quality in education. "We see parents spending huge sums of money on providing education to their children. With such a situation prevailing, it is our duty to act accordingly," he said.
Pallam added that the HRD ministry keeps track of all problems and aspects that fall under its purview.
Management heads and students of various schools and colleges were present. They placed pleas on various policy issues, steps for safety for women, law on crimes against them and many others before the minister.
Among them, students of Dr M V Shetty College of Physiotherapists led by Dr U T Ifthikar Ali, convener, Indian Association of Physiotherapists, urged the formation of an independent central physiotherapy council of India on the lines of Medical Council of India (MCI) and Dental Council of India (DCI).
Speaking to Daijiworld, Dr Mohammed Suhail from students' association of physiotherapy said that physiotherapists have been demanding for a council for the last 20 years. "The formation of council will help in enhancing and maintaining the educational standards, institutional standards and professional development," he added.
Ramanath Rai, PV Mohan, JR Lobo, Denis D’Silva, MLA UT Khader, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Naveen D’Souza, Ivan D’Souza, Manjnath Bhandary, TK Sudheer among others were present.
