Mangalore: Young Medicos Hold Candlelight Vigil to Condemn Delhi Rape

Mangalore, Jan 3: Medical students from across colleges under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, on Wednesday January 2 showed their solidarity with a candlelight protest
condemning the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old in Delhi which resulted in her death.
The protest was organized under the leadership of Abhilash PV, Senate member of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science at Nehru Maidan here on Wednesday.
The students lit candles as part of the protest. They observed a moment of silence for the Delhi rape victim and prayed for all victims of crime against women.
"It is not enough if India provides education facilities, it should also maintain its culture by stopping violence against women," said Abhilash, "Such crimes will continue if strict action is not taken in the matter. It poses a threat to students coming from other states."
He also demanded that the government brings about strict rape laws.
As many as 800 students from different medical colleges participated in the protest.
