Three Die After Falling Off Mumbai Trains

Mumbai, Dec 31 (IANS): Three people were killed after falling from three different over-crowded suburban local trains here, police said Monday.

"Three people were killed when they fell out of three different trains on the central line," a government railway police official told IANS.

Two of the victims were identified as Dipesh Kadam, 22, and Ashok Shelar, 34, he said.

While commuters claimed that the trains were over-crowded due to maintenance activity undertaken during weekends, Central Railways officials claimed that the work had ended at 6 a.m.

"We believe the delay in arrival and departure of local trains was owing to signal errors," a Central Railway official told IANS.

As many as 180 local trains were cancelled through the day, the official added.
