Margao, Dec 29: The 21st National Konkani Literary Conference of the All India Konkani Parishad will be held for three days from February 15 to 17, 2013 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, Goa. The Conference is being organized by the Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goa
The All India Konkani Parishad is the pioneer institution which works for the all around development of Konkani language. Ever since its inception in the year 1939, the Konkani Parishad has been working to bring together the Konkani speaking people of Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and other parts of the country on a single platform, irrespective of region, religion, caste or dialects.
Apart from its 28 biennial sessions, the Parishad has been organizing the Konkani literary conferences at the national level. These meets have offered valuable opportunities to the fragmented Konkani community to ponder upon the linguistic, literary, educational, social and cultural issues which confronted it during the past seventy three years. The deliberations set in motion a long drawn action plan which ultimately led to Konkani’s recognition as an independent literary language by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, its acquisition of the status of official language in Goa and its inclusion in the 8th Schedule of the country’s constitution. The development of Konkani literature and the progress the language has made in the field of education can be attributed to a great deal to the impetus given by the Parishad. In the process, the Parishad itself grew into an All India Body to which 16 Konkani associations of Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Maharashtra are now affiliated.
It is after a gap of 15 years that Margao will host the All India Konkani Literary Conference again. A Reception Committee, with Datta Damodar Naik as its Chairman, has been formed for the successful conduct of the meet.
