Ten Delhi Metro Stations Shut

New Delhi, Dec 29 (IANS): Delhi Metro Saturday shut down 10 stations in the heart of the capital on a request from police who fear mass protests following the death of the gang-rape victim in Singapore.

A Delhi Metro official said the stations were closed at 7.40 a.m., about five hours after the young woman died in Singapore, until further notice.

The 10 stations are: Pragati Maidan, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhavan, Race Course, Jor Bagh and Khan Market.

These stations are spread over the Yellow, Blue and Violet networks.

The official said inter-change services would, however, continue at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat stations.

But no one will be allowed to enter or exit from these stations.
