Rochelle Diniz Bags First Place in Kavita Trust Konkani Poetry Writing Competition

Mangalore, Dec 27: Rochelle Diniz, a 9th grade student of St Jude's High School, Salcete, Goa has bagged the first prize in the late Charles and Theresa Rodrigues Memorial, VI All India Konkani Poetry Writing Competition for students.

Rochelle has been chosen for her poem 'Soponn' (Dream), out of 178 entries received for the competition. She will be given Rs 2,000 in cash, a memento and a citation during Kavita Fest - 2013 to be held on January 13, 2013.
The second prize has been won by Kanaka Atmaram Narvekar, a 9th grade student of St Joseph's Institute, Vasco, Goa for her poem 'Mog' (Love), while Steeven D'Souza, a 10th grade student of St Joseph's P U College, Bajpe, Mangalore has been chosen for the third prize for his poem 'Udenvcho Suryo' (Rising Sun). They will be given Rs 1000 and Rs 750 in cash, along with mementos and citations.
Victor Mathias, Averyl Rodrigues and Melvyn Rodrigues selected the winners. They shortlisted ten poems first and later selected the winners after an interaction with the finalists.
All the winners will be given all-expenses-paid return trip to Mangalore for Kavita Fest 2013 to receive their prizes along with their parents. All the participants will be sent certificates through their respective schools.
The 7th edition of Kavita Fest will be held in Thumbay, Bantwal at the courtyard of Vishwa Konkani Sardar Basti Vaman Shenoy. The day-long event will be inaugurated by Adv Uday L Bhembre from Goa and the concluding ceremony will be presided over by Fr Prashant Madtha, lexicographer and writer from Bangalore.
