Mangalore, Dec 26: The modified version of 'Made Made Snana', termed as ‘Ede Snana’ a ritual wherein devotees roll over the ‘prasadam’ of the deity at Shree Kshetra Subrahmanya (instead of rolling over banana plaintains of the leftover meals of Brahmins as in Made Snana) should not be regarded as a ritual that desecrates the prasadam, said Sri Vishweshatirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math, Udupi here on Wednesday December 26.
Addressing a press conference in the city, the Swamiji contented that if ‘Ede Snana’ was rejected on the argument that prasadam gets desecrated in the process, then even a dip in the holy Ganga would contaminate the river.
On the recent criticism by Sri Nidumamidi Swamiji against him alleging double standards on the Made Snana issue, the Pejawar Swamiji said that it was a false statement. "Nidumamidi Swamiji had earlier congratulated me for suggesting Ede Snana in place of Made Made Snana, but now he is criticizing me," he lamented.
He asserted that there was no need for practicing Made Snana as it led to discrimination among people of different castes, unlike Ede Snana.
On discrimination in serving food among Brahmins and other caste people at Sri Krishna Temple in Udupi, the Swamiji said that it is a practice wherein food is served separately for the orthodox. "Even Brahmins go to have their food at mass meals at the temple," he said, adding that there was no discrimination.
On Nandikur power plant, the Pejawar Swamiji said that he never took a backward step in his fight for justice. "If people come forward to fight, then I will support them anytime. Farmers will not be neglected," he said, calling upon the people to fight collectively.
