Puttur: Thieves Loot Gold Worth Rs 10 Lac from House

Puttur, Dec 26: Thieves decamped with gold worth Rs 10 lac from a house adjacent to Bannur church here on Monday December 24.
The house owner Pramila Gonsalves and her daughter had taken part in the Christmas celebration and returned home at night.
The theft took place after they went to bed at 11.30 pm. The incident came to light when they woke up in the morning.
As per the information received, the thieves broke open the back door and entered the house. They found cupboard key easily and decamped with gold weighing 310 grams, a vanity bag and NRI cheques.
Pramila had kept all her gold in the bank locker, but it home to wear during the Christmas celebration. Pramila’s husband John Gonsalves is working abroad and her daughter is studying in Mangalore.
Incidentally, the theft is said to taken place in the same room where the mother-daughter had slept.
Sources said that five years ago an unsuccessful attempt to loot was made in the same house. A year back, a similar kind of theft was reported in a house at Krishnanagar where a mother and daughter were residing. Police suspect that the same gang was involved in the three incidents.
As soon as the theft came to light, Pramila informed the police. ASP M N Anucheth along with other officials visited the spot. The ASP also informed the officials of the crime detection branch and directed them to show Pramila photographs of wanted thieves.
Canine squad and fingerprint experts were also called.
A case has been registered in the Puttur town police station. Further investigation will be carried out by inspector N Sudarshan.
