Kiev, Dec 19 (IANS): A total of 37 people, mostly homeless, have frozen to death in the bitter cold weather in Ukraine this month, with 19 of them dying Monday alone, officials said.
Temperatures in the country have dropped below minus 15 degrees Celsius, Xinhua reported.
Most of the victims were homeless people who froze to death on the streets, the health ministry said.
In order to help those in need during the winter season, the authorities have set up around 1,500 shelters that have facilities like hot tea, heat sources and food.
The night temperatures across the country are forecast to drop to minus 28 degrees Celsius in the next few days.
