No Indian in Top-20 Test Batsmen, Tendulkar Slips to 22nd

Dubai, Dec 19 (PTI): Sachin Tendulkar on Tuesday slipped out of the list of top-20 Test batsmen after his awful run in the just-concluded four-match series against England while Australia skipper Michael Clarke regained the numero uno position.

Tendulkar, who dropped three places to 22nd, managed to aggregate a mere 112 runs with a lone half-century in the Kolkata Test.

The other notable Indian batsmen like Virender Sehwag and Cheteshwar Pujara also slipped in the rankings, dropping a notch to 25th and 26th respectively.

Virat Kohli gained four places to be ranked 37th while skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni remained static at 38th.

In bowling, Pragyan Ojha lost four places to be ranked ninth while R Ashwin made it to the 20th position after gaining two sports. Out of form seamer Zaheer Khan was static at 15th while Ishant Sharma's improved show in the Nagpur Test helped him gain a place to 32nd.

Clarke, who entered the Hobart Test trailing number-one ranked Shivnarine Chanderpaul by just one ratings point, now leads the West Indian by nine points.

Clarke's knocks of 74 and 57 in the Hobart Test against Sri Lanka that was won by Australia by 137 runs, played a part in helping him race to the top.

England's captain Alastair Cook, who was the other contender for the top spot, remained in fourth position after losing 38 ratings points following his double failure in the Nagpur Test which ended in a draw. He now trails Clarke by 52 ratings points.

The bowlers table is still headed by South Africa's Dale Steyn while Sri Lanka's spinner Rangana Herath dropped two places to fourth.

Also moving up is England's paceman James Anderson in sixth (up by one).

Although the TOP 20 batsman ranking at times appear skewed, there is no doubt that the calibre of those in the list is immense. Batsmen like Hasim Amla, Jacques Kallis, Michael Clarke, Kevin Peterson, Cook, Trott and others are highly talented and also consistent performers. Theer was a time when Rahul Dravid, Saurabh Ganguly & Sachin Tendulkar were forever in this list . Yes it's circle and our new Indian batsmen will have to take the cue and ape the likes of Hasim Amla , Kallis etc to enter this . In fact we should remember hthat our first real great and consistent batsmen like Sunil Gavaskar , G.R.Vishwanath and others appeared on the scene post 1975 and thereafter we have been fortunate to have had some top class Indian batsmen . Our Fans have to exhibit some more patience and give our youngsters like Pujara & Kohli some time to settle. Top Batsmen cannot be produced overnight and have to be nutured by a good captain as well.

This ranking shows how much tendulkar has declined now, he is not the batsman he used to be, moreover nowadays when he comes to the crease its the question of how quickly he will get out not how much he will score, i am sure he will get out quickly the more he plays, and the more quickly he retires better for him. No one is qualified in cricket as he is to give any advise, but when things dont work for you, you have to make it switch, either fight for it or be more aggressive, i dont think Tendulkar has that quality, and INdian team on the whole lack the killer instinct, which is vey much visible in the recent concluded test series no batsman clicked and they played in their shell, and didnt play with winning, thats what cost India the series. Hope they play well in T20 & Odi's.

Sachin I am very sure needs counselling-What with everybody
opining (at least from the front!) that it's his call, it's time that his wife or personal doctor advise him to take the all important call! Sachin should be remembered for his best and not the worst....What a tragedy!
