Not Right to Reveal Details of Meetings: Srikkanth

Chennai, Dec 14 (PTI): Former selection committee chairman Kris Srikkanth, who has been accused of shielding Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni despite poor performances, on Thursday hit back saying that it is not right to rake up issues discussed in the panel meetings.

Former selector Mohinder Amarnath has opened a pandora’s box by stating that three selectors out of the five-member panel wanted Dhoni to be sacked but they were overruled by BCCI President N. Srinivasan.

Srikkanth on Thursday said that it was not appropriate to reveal the details of committee meetings.

“I have always maintained that whatever happens in the selection committee meetings should remain within the four walls.

“It is not right for me or anyone to come out and say what exactly happened,” Srikkanth told reporters here.

“It’s just like a company’s board meetings where lot of discussions happen about what to do and what not to do for the company’s growth. But nobody comes out in public and tells what (has) happened,” he said.

Refusing to give pointed reactions to the allegations made by Amarnath, Srikkanth said, “We discuss a lot of issues in the selection committee meetings, captaincy of Dhoni or X, Y, Z always come up in the meetings.

“We always have detailed discussion on captaincy issues, ex-players, team combination. But at the end of the day it is always consensus,” he added.

“We should just move on. Yes, Indian cricket is going through tough times and let’s hope we do well in the Nagpur Test match and revive,” he said.

Srikkanth also said during his tenure as chief selector, he never shirked responsibility for the team’s debacles.

“Whatever decision we take is for the good of the country. Sometimes our selection clicks, sometimes it doesn’t.

It was the same selection committee which won the 2011 World Cup. None of you gave credit,” he said.

“When we lost badly in England, Australia and what not. I never shied away from the blame,” he added.

It is generally known to all that the minutes of the meeting are filed and even circulated. The ors had the responsibility to the INDIAN NATIONAL TEAM and not for BCCI or any club. It's gentleman's game and they should be honest like Mr Amaranath and not the opportunists like Mr Srikanth

It's because of the Fans that Cricket has become popular. Cricketers like Krish Srikanth should be true to their blood and support Cricket lovers and the Country first and not blindly go with what's best for their State/ CSK and selfish interest.
Everyone knows that Mr N. Srinivasan is holding dual posts and really does not care what happens to Test Cricket and is fully supportive of only IPL which is the new money spinning mantra .

    1) That IPL and T 20 has caused the totally slump in Indian Test Cricket is a foregone conclusion and does not require a Gavaskar or Bedi to underline this.
    2) We must have dual or even 3 captains for the 3 formats.
3)The bench strength should be atleast 25 at any given time. There should be 15 good players to at any given point of time for each of the 3 formats.
4)A proper Rotation policy should be put in place.

Unless all this is done, we cannot aspire to get back our no 1 Test Position which is what that really matters in the end as it looks like we can loose matches even to BanglaDesh or Afghanistan as well.

NDTV has recently launched a clean sports campaign and it seems that Cricket Administration and BCCI also needs one.

Srikanth, I completely disagree with you. Indian public should know what is happening in Indian cricket. It is because Indians are crazy about cricket. I admire Amarnath as a player and he is always straight forward. We cannot forget his role in 1983 world cup. Many of the ors of BCCI president which is not good for Indian cricket. BCCI is not bothered about developing cricket. We are lacking genuine allrounders like Flintop, Jacques Kallis and Shane Watson. Need of the hour is to have some bouncy pitches in India similar to that of England/Australia/South Africa. We struggle outside India as our players are not exposed to bouncy pitches.
