Seven of a Family Killed in Road Crash near Bailukoppa

Kushalnagar, Dec 7: In a ghastly accident, eight persons including seven of a family were killed on the spot when the car they were travelling in collided head-on with another car near Bailukoppa here on Thursday December 6.
The deceased have been identified as former zilla panchayat member of Mysore Chowdaiah (50), Suntikoppa corporator Shafi (43), his wife Ramiza (36), their children Irfan (19), Imran (16), Tasmiya (13), Afnan (4) and brother Rafiq (26).
The incident took place when Shafi was travelling to Periyapatna (his mother's place) along with his family via Suntikoppa-Kushalnagar road in his Maruthi 800 car (KA 20 5934). An Indigo car (KA 45 M 0177) plying from the opposite direction rammed into their car.
The impact of the incident was such that six persons died on the spot, while two children died at a hospital in Mysore. The car was completely smashed.
As per the information received, the tragic incident took place at around 6.45 pm. It is learnt that the car was driven by Shafi's son at the time of the accident.
Shafi along with his brother Rafiq owned a shop in Suntikoppa. Shafi use to stay with his family at Suntikoppa while Rafiq used to catch bus daily and go to their mother's place at Periyapatna. But on Thursday, the family decided to visit the mother by car.
The Mysore-Bantwal road where the accident took place was recently widened. But as the road is steep, many accidents takes place. There is no divider for the road other than in city limits.
As the news of the accident spread, hundreds of people gathered, and the traffic too was blocked for several hours around 1 km area. The bodies were shifted to Kushalnagar Government hospital.
A case has been registered in Bailukoppa police station.
