Mangalore: Shameful - University Professor Caught Red-handed by Lokayukta

Mangalore, Dec 5: We have come across a number of cases where politicians and government officials have been caught by the Lokayukta accepting or demanding bribes. With the anti-corruption mantra sweeping across the country, one would expect conscientious citizens, whose voice has been quite vociferous in the anti-corruption movement, to set an example.
Of all the people, when a teacher, considered a noble citizen who moulds the society indulges in corruption, it is indeed shameful for the entire teaching profession. In this case, it was no less than a university professor.
Dr Anita Ravishankar, associate professor in sociology at Mangalore University was caught red-handed by Lokayukta police while accepting bribe here on December 4.
She was arrested for accepting bribe of Rs 5,000 from a research student.
As per the information received, Dr Anita Ravishankar had demanded a 'fee' of Rs 5,000 while assigning the research project to her student Prema. The girl at once alerted the Lokayukta.
Lokayukta police asked Prema to make use of a recorder, through which the professor was caught with enough evidence. She has been produced in the sessions court.
Dakshina Kannada Lokayukta SP Mohandas Pai, DYSP Vittaldas Pai, inspector Umesh Shet, Dilip Kumar, officials Sudarshan, Sharath, Bhaskar, Shivaprasad, Salim, Harishchandra, George, Pramod, Madhu and Sudhakar were part of the operation.
