Srinagar, Dec 4 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital Srinagar witnessed its coldest day of the season Tuesday as the temperature dropped to around three degrees Celsius here.
Leh town was the coldest at minus 12.2 degrees Celsius while Kargil recorded minus seven degrees, Sonam Lotus, director of the Met office, told IANS.
In Gulmarg, the minimum temperature was minus five degrees and in Pahalgam minus 4.6 degrees Celsius.
Although taps did not freeze anywhere in Srinagar due to sub-zero temperatures, a thin layer of frozen water could be seen at many places over stagnant water pools.
"It was a bitter cold in the morning today (Tuesday). After sunrise, things improved," said Feroze Ahmad, 32, of Natipora locality.
Lotus said snowfall was expected in the higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley Dec 8.
