Ganalahari-2012: Kannada Carol Singing Competition Inaugurated

Mangalore, Dec 1: The Kannada carol singing competition as part of the Christa Jayanthi Gaanalahari – 2012 was inaugurated with all pomp and glory at St Vincent Ferrer Church grounds, in Valencia, Mangalorne on Saturday, December 1, 2012. 18 teams from different parts of Mangalore participated in the competition.
The competition was inaugurated by releasding the Christmas Ganalahari CD, the 20th presentation of Dr Honey Cabral. Fr Lawrence Mukkuzy, Parish Priest of Belthangady presided over the programme. Congress leader Ivan D Souza and Elias Fernandes of Four Winds Mass Communications were the guests of honour. Dr Honey Cabral, Principal of KTC, Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, parish priest of Valencia parish, Anil Lobo, president of Catholic Sabha and Flavia Sequeira, secretary were also on the dais.
Speaking on the occasion Ivan said music is divine and is everlasting and today’s programme has clearly manifested it. “Music is part and parcel of every aspect of our life, be it birth or death. When a message is conveyed through music it reaches deep inside us and the message is conveyed with the right mode”, he stated.
Fr Lawrence who spoke on the occasion said it was a meaningful programme and particularly laudable because of the joining of hands by 3 different associations through this programme for a noble cause. “Jesus Christ always wanted his followers to come together and be united. Programmes of this nature are required to realize our long cherished dreams”, he stated.
The inauguration was followed by an entertainment programme with Vismaya Vinayaka presenting the drams “Tamashe Factory”. Dr Honey Cabral welcomed the gathering. Flavia Sequeira proposed the vote of thanks.
The English carol singing competition was held on Friday, November 30 and the Konkani competition will be held on Sunday, December 2. Ganalahari competition has been organised by Catholic Sabha, Mangalore in association with St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia unit and KACES, Balmatta.
