Udupi, Nov 30: A 20-year-old student allegedly committed suicide at Kallianpur here on Friday November 30.
The deceased has been identified as Rakshitha, a final year BSc student of Milagres College, Kallianpur.
She was the daughter of Nithayananda K P and Malathi N, residents of "Nisarga House" Nayampalli, Santhekatte. She was staying with her parents.
She is said to have hanged herself in her room. The incident came to light at around 10.30 am when her parents knocked at her room and got no response.
It is said that Rakshitha was in the habit of locking herself in her room and studying. As usual, on Friday morning she finished her breakfast and went into her room and locked herself up. A little later a friend of Rakshitha's called her parents and asked them to inform her that computer class, which they used to attend, had been cancelled for the day.
When Rakshitha's parents knocked on her room to convey the message, they did not get any response. Worried, they looked through the window of her room and found her hanging.
The reason for taking the extreme step is not yet known. Police have taken her mobile phone into possession to investigate further.
Police have registered a case.
