Mangalore: Anganwadi Workers from Across District Stage Massive Protest

Mangalore, Nov 30: The Dakshina Kannada District Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association staged a protest near the zilla panchayat office here on Friday November 30, urging the government to fulfill their various demands .
Prior to the protest a rally was held from Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to zilla panchayat office.
As part of the protest, a memorandum was submitted to Shakunthala, deputy director of women and child welfare department.
The memorandum placed various demands such as,
. Increase of gas cylinders from 4 to 6.
. Salary hike for teachers and helpers, that is 12,000 and 10,000 respectively.
. Transfer to be done with prior notice
. Reduction in work time
. Provide health benefits, pension and other facilities.
. Salary to be deposited by 5th of every month
Speaking to Daijiworld, Bhavani D, secretary of Mangalore taluk unit said that the teachers have been receiving a meager salary of Rs 4,500 and helpers Rs 2,250. "As prices of commodities are on rise day by day, it is difficult to lead life with less salary. Hence we demand a minimum salary of Rs 12,000 for teachers and Rs 10,000 for helpers. In this regard, we have approached various officials, but none of us have responded to our problems," she alleged.
As many as 2,500 people from Sulia, Puttur, Beltangady, Mangalore urban, Mangalore rural participated in the protest.
Aruna D, president of Puttur zone, Vijayalaxmi, secretary of Mangalore urban, Chandravathi, treasurer of Mangalore rural, Kusuma, vice president of Beltangady, Nandini, joint secretary of Sullia, Kushala, vice-president of Mangalore urban unit among others were present.
