Three Indians Amongst Hockey League Marquee Players

New Delhi, Nov 29 (IANS): Current India captain Sardar Singh, Australian Jamie Dwyer and the world's most capped player, Teun de Nooijer of the Netherlands, are amongst the six marquee players for the Hockey India League (HIL) auction Dec 16.

The other premier players picked for auction are Germany's double Olympic gold medallist Moritz Fuertse and Indians Sandeep Singh and S.V. Sunil.

"The six franchises will engage one each of these marquee players whose craft makes them huge crowd pullers," Narinder Batra, Hockey India (HI) secretary general and HIL chairman, said in a statement.

The auction has been designed in such a way that the teams will bid for the marquee players before the rest of the lot. "It will ensure that each of the six franchisees will have an equal chance to engage a Marquee Player of its choice," Batra said.

"All teams will place silent bids for all six players and the auctioneer will announce the successful bids," he added.

Each team's marquee player will get a contract worth at least 115 per cent of the highest successful bid for a player in the auction. And the player will be entitled to get the amount mentioned in the silent bid.
