Mumbai, Nov 27: On the occasion of 23rd annual day celebration, ‘Konkan Kalzam’ Sakinaka recently presented a musical nite called ‘Konkni Dabazo’ in St Anthony Church Hall, Sakinaka, here.
The association was founded 23 years ago by the active Konkani parishioners under the leadership of Br David, Late Pintam Derebail and Fr Alex Carvalho, to cater to the needs of social, cultural and liturgical activities of Sakinaka Parish.
During these 23 years the association has organized several Konkani Popular Shows and kept Konkani active and alive in the parish. The name Sakinaka itself signals ‘Little Mangalore’ having very active Konkani Speaking Parishioners in Mumbai. Youth and children are well trained in dance, singing and theatre in Konkani and the funds are utilized for the benefit of poor and needy children of parish for their education.
This year, they organized a Konkani Show of well known Mangalorean and Goan Artists of Mumbai along with their dance groups of children and youngsters. Artists like Rony Crasta (Mangalore), Anthony / Suchita Tauro (Sakinaka), John Mascarenhas (Jerimeri), Betty Naz (Bandra), Carrie Fernandes, Noel, Rubina, Dildar singh ( who sang popular Juliana song), Edwin, Vivet sang melodious songs of Late Wilfy Rebimbus, Late Mic Max Henry D’Souza, Late Joker Cassia, Anthony Tauro, John Mascarenhas, Alex Madtha, etc.
Nevertheless old and young artists of Sakinaka like Alphonse Crasta, Stany Salis, Sunil Fernandes, Alwyn D’Mello, Julie Fernandes presented hilarious skits and jokes. Aelrid Crasta and group, Veena Veigas and group and little children like Wynona, Ashlita, Jenisha, Alvira etc, presented mind blowing dances with colourful costumes.
Benjamin Miranda and troupe served spectacular live music with Indian and classical performance.
The programme began with a prayer dance followed by lighting of lamp by chief guest Flora Denis Lobo (director of Nashwin Electricals Pvt Ltd) and other guests of honour like Michael Fernandes (social activist), Noel D’Mello (Prop of S N Hydro systems), Fr Julius D’Souza –assistant parish priest and director of Konkan Kalzam), Felix Monteiro (president-Konkan Kalzam), Lawrence Coelho (Divo editor), Suzan Coelho (Secular Citizen-editor) who were present on the dias.
The welcome address was delivered by Felix Monteiro (president), association report was presented by Veena Veigas (secretary) and the vote of thanks was proposed by Rajesh Rodrigues (vice president).
Rony Crasta, Anthony Tauro and Alphonse Crasta compered the programme.
The programme ended with trio massala songs, to which all artists and audience danced to the tune.
