Bantwal: Fear of Canine Squad Leads Daughter-in-law to Own up Theft!

Bantwal, Nov 25: In an incident that raised many eyebrows, the daughter in-law of a house located at Porlappada Hosagadde of Padnur village in Vittal here hatched a plot and stole gold jewellery worth several lacs of rupees.
The incident occurred at a house belonging to Monappa Poojary.
Poojary and his wife were on a visit to a relative's house when the incident took place. On Saturday November 24 night, only Poojary's son Kiran, daughter in-law Vani and grand children were home. On Sunday morning the theft at Monappa Poojary’s house was reported to police.
Vittal police station SI Madhava Kudlu and staff rushed to the spot and began investigating. It was found that the theft had taken place when Kiran had been to a neighbour's house to get help for Vani who was reportedly 'ill'. The cupboard was open and clothes and other items were strewn around.
The dog squad was then pressed into action. Sensing trouble, Vani admitted having stolen the jewellery and apologized for her act. The stolen loot was recovered from a hillock near the house.
Fear of canine squad brings out truth
Though Vani was daring enough to commit the theft, her courage failed her when she set her eyes upon the trained police dogs and the fingerprint experts who had arrived at the spot. Before she could be found out, Vani herself apologized and owned up that she had concealed the jewellery at a hillock. Based on this information, the police recovered the 16 sovereign of gold jewellery she had stolen.
It is said that Vani was suffering from mental illness since three months and had developed the habit of shouting during the night and had also reportedly threatened to kill her own children. On Saturday too, she showed signs of mental illness and for that reason her husband Kiran went to call someone for assistance.
