Shelling from Afghanistan Kills Pakistani Child

Islamabad, Nov 20 (IANS): Mortar shells fired from across the Afghan border into Pakistan's northwest tribal region has killed a child, and injured a woman and another child, Pakistani security officials have said.

"Terrorists fired a mortar round from Ganjgil Top on Afghan side of the border, hitting a house in a village in Hilal Khel of Bajaur Agency. As a result, a child was dead," the officials told Xinhua.

Incidents of cross-border firing have heightened tension between the two countries.

The officials said Pakistan will lodge a protest with the Afghan government over the incident.

In a similar cross-border shelling Nov 12, four civilians in a border village in Pakistan's South Waziristan area were killed.
