New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS): A major fire broke out in the 15-storey Himalaya House Building on the busy Kasturba Gandhi Marg in central Delhi Monday. No casualties have been reported.
About 32 fire tenders were struggling to douse the fire, which started at 6.20 a.m. and was still to be doused even five hours later, a fire service officer said.
"Around five floors from third to seventh has been gutted till now. Valuables worth crores of rupees might have gone up in flames," he said.
Kasturba Gandhi Marg, next to the capital's shopping centre Connaught Place, is part of an office hub with several high rise buildings. The road has been barricaded and people from nearby buildings have been evacuated as a safety measure.
According to fire officials, no casualties have been reported.
"The fire broke out in the third floor of the building and spread to the fourth and fifth floors too. No one has been injured in the incident. The cause of the fire is yet unknown," an official said.
