Udupi: State-level Chess Competition Begins Amid Fanfare

Udupi, Nov 19: The State-level Primary and High School Boys and Girls Chess Competition 2012-2013 kicked off at Mount Rosary English School in Santhekatte-Kallianpur here on Saturday November 17 amid much fanfare.
Prior to the inaugural ceremony, a grand procession was held from Ashirwad Junction at 4.30pm, with a large number of students, tableaux, chende, huli vesha, school band set, women with Kalasha, colourful umbrellas and much more were part of the vibrant procession.
The procession wound through Santhekatte Junction and entered the Mount Rosary Church Ground around 5.30pm.
The programme was inaugurated at the school ground by chief guest K Jayaprakash Hegde, MP, Udupi-Chikmangalur.
The competition has 680 participants in the fray from 34 districts.
Mallika, zilla panchayat, Moodu-tonse, Sunitha S Poojary, president, gram panchayath, Kallianpur, Fr Philip Nery Aranha, correspondent and parish priest, Mount Rosary Church and School, S R Umashankar, commissioner eduction department, S A Prabhhakar Sharma, Udupi zilla panchayat, Jerry Vincent Dias, vice-president, Mount Rosary Church, Pramod Madhwaraj, industrialist, Sr Adriana Seravo, headmistress, Mount Rosary English School were present.
The valedictory will be held on Tuesday November 20.
