Moodbidri, Nov 16: The ninth edition of 'Alva's Nudisiri' organized by Alva's Education Trust was off to a brilliant start at Vidhyagiri here on Friday November 16.
Addressing the gathering, poet Nisar Ahmed said, "One can achieve wonders through unrelenting struggle. The present-day thinkers should follow this ideology. The fruitfulness of any movement is evident when it paves the way for strengthening those who are sidelined in their own land."
"Kannadigas are known by their cordial approach. Patience is in their veins and merged in their character. This has enabled prevalence of a harmonious atmosphere in the state," he said.
"An ideal way of living is there in their blood. They are never carried away by clan or creed and this is not an exaggeration," he added.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Jnanpith awardee U R Ananthamurthy said that in spite of several rich people in the society, they have not benefitted Kannada. "I would say Dr Mohan Alva is the kind of wealthy person that Kannada needs for its growth. There is a need for people like him to enrich kannada language," he said.
Lauding the arrangements made at the venue, he said that it was reminder of the grandeur that prevailed during the period of Ratnakar Varni.
The decline in agriculture in the name of development has had a bad impact on the society, he said.
"Writings should mirror the truth and be enduring. Sometimes endurance is prioritized while the truth fades away. Hence, the doctrine of senior poets like Ratnakat Varni and others should be the guideline of literature," he added.
Centenarian Venkata Subbayya, Pundalika Halambi, president of Kannada Sahitya Parishad, former minister Amarnath Shetty, MP Nalin Kumar, MLA Abhayachandra Jain, Jayashree Amarnath Shetty, MLA Ganesh Karnik among others were guests of honour.
The programme was inaugurated by Ananthamoorthy in a unique manner by pouring milk on a sapling in a silver container. A grand procession was held prior to the inauguration.
A book on collection of speeches was released on the occasion.
Mohan Alva welcomed the gathering, Venugopal Shetty, Alva’s professor compered and professor Dr Dhananjaya Kumble delivered the vote of thanks.
