Krasnodar (Russia), Nov 15 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Russia coach Fabio Capello insisted he was happy with the performance even though his team twice let a one-goal lead slip in a 2-2 friendly draw with the United States.
Rosenberg striker Mix Diskerud blasted home a stoppage-time equaliser in a game Wednesday that began with a debut goal for Russia striker Fyodor Smolov.
The draw extends to nine games an unbeaten run for the US since a 1-4 defeat to Brazil in May while Russia have yet to lose in six games since Fabio Capello took charge in July.
"I'm really pleased with what we showed today. I'm satisfied that I've managed to see a lot of players in action, now I will be ready to use them in competitive fixtures," Capello said.
The Italian was referring to Smolov and fellow debutant Maxim Grigoryev, who was denied his own debut goal after a last-ditch challenge from Clarence Goodson as he prepared to shoot.
Real Madrid youngster Denis Cheryshev also played his first match for Russia and impressed late on with two efforts on goal.
"I'm not upset that we conceded two goals. Just that we gave one away in the last minute," Capello said.
But Capello ended on a high note.
"We are looking to the future with optimism."
Russia's next game is a World Cup qualifier at Northern Ireland in March.
