Mangalore, Nov 12: The residents of Kadri-Shivbagh area went on a unique protest here on Monday November 12, literally 'begging' for money to repair their roads!
The residents have long been demanding repair of the roads in the area and provision of basic amenities like proper street lights, garbage maintenance, bus stop and cover for overflowing drains. For the last 15 years the roads in the area have not been repaired, claim the residents.
Tired of the negligence and apathy of corporators despite repeated appeals, the residents finally decided to bring some innovation into their protest.
The protesters said that the residents have been suffering for the past ten years and have undertaken many agitations and protests, and submitted pleas and memorandum, but the local representatives have failed to sort out their problems.
"But enough is enough. This time we have planned to solve our problems by protesting in a different manner by begging in the streets for money to undertake the repair works. This way we want to give a clear and sarcastic signal to the local representatives that we are fed up of their indifference," he said.
The residents collected the money from shops, auto drivers and from pedestrians to set right the condition of Kadri Shiva Bagh 34th ward themselves.
