Chennai, Nov 10 (IANS): The central and state governments are likely to decide on their e-governance projects by the end of this year, said a top official of EMC Data Storage Systems India.

"We expect the central and state governments to decide on their e-governance projects by the end of this year. When that happens then the investment tide by the government sector would turn in the opposite direction," Rajesh Janey, president, EMC India and SAARC, told IANS.

The network storage solutions company gets around 20 percent of its Indian revenues from the government and public sector segments, Janey said, while declining to share finer details.

According to him, the company has provided solutions for government departments like Unique Identification Authority of India, Passport Seva, National Remote Sensing Agency, National Insurance Company Ltd. and others.

EMC organised its third edition of EMC Forum in Mumbai Nov 8-9 to discuss how cloud computing and big data, which is huge data difficult to process with existing tools, is transforming information technology (IT) and business.

According to Janey, with big data gathered from various sources plotting patterns, government can forecast likely events.

He said the government can take appropriate preventive action against the likely outbreak of a disease in a particular area based on the past experience data collected from various sources.

EMC also launched its cloud computing, data science and data analytics courses and expects to train around 30,000 people by 2013.
