Hanoi, Nov 10 (IANS): Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in the Vietnamese capital Friday on a two-day official visit, as the two countries wish to boost their relationship in different sectors.
Ahmadinejad is visiting the country at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Truong Tan Sang, Xinhua reported.
During their talks, the two leaders expressed satisfaction with the development of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries over the past years. They reaffirmed their determination to further strengthen the relationship in sectors like trade, agriculture, fisheries, culture, sports and tourism.
The Iranian president, during his meeting with Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, said Iran would actively support Vietnam at the multilateral forums of the UN and Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
Iran and Vietnam established diplomatic ties in 1973. In 2011, their bilateral trade turnover reached $165 million.
