Mangalore: Two Ravi Poojary Aides Arrested for Extortion

Mangalore, Nov 8: Police have arrested two aides of underworld don Ravi Poojary and Kaliyogisha in connection with an extortion case.
Addressing a press meet here on Thursday November 8, city police commissioner Manish Karbikar said that the arrested are Taranath and Subramanya alias Subbu. They were said to be extorting money from rich businessmen in the city.
They used to instruct the businessmen to send the extortion money to a milk booth at PVS Circle. On learning that a businessman would be sending Rs one lac to this booth, police commissioner Manish Karbikar directed city crime branch to raid the booth.
On the raiding the booth, the two were arrested and Rs one lac and eight mobile phones were seized from them.
Karbikar said that the investigation was still in its primary stage and further details will be revealed as the case progresses.
He said that extortion money used to be supplied to Ravi Poojary aides Dinesh and Pratap who are in jail, accused in the murder of advocate Naushad Kashimji.
On interrogation, it was found that Subramanya too was involved in the same murder case. A barber by profession, his saloon had been raided before and three pistols were recovered.
Further investigations are on by the Mangalore north police.
