New Delhi, Nov 5 (IANS): Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar met Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad Sunday and expressed satisfaction at the positive developments in bilateral ties, including in trade and economy, official sources said here Monday.
According to a statement from the Speaker's Office here, Meira Kumar called on Zardari after the inauguration of the Sixth Conference of the Association of SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians being held in Islamabad.
She also expressed satisfaction at the people-to-people interaction between the two countries.
The speaker told Zardari that she carried an everlasting impressions from her bilateral visit in his country earlier in February on the invitation of National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza. This was her second visit to Pakistan this year.
Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha P.J. Kurien and Secretary General of the Lok Sabha T.K. Viswanathan accompanied her.
Meira Kumar conveyed greetings and good wishes from President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and also good wishes from parliament and people of India to the people of Pakistan for peace, progress and prosperity in that country.
The two leaders emphasised the role of parliamentary interaction in promoting democratic values and strengthening democratic institutions in the region through exchange of ideas and sharing of experience.
Meira Kumar told Zardari that she is looking forward to welcome chairman of the Pakistan Senate and his delegation to India in the coming weeks.
