Nov 5 : 'Let Him Who is Without Sin Cast the First Stone' the famous Bible quote is in making the rounds during these days, especially in political circles. The political analysts are of the opinion that Indian politics has reached a new low with personal accusations, allegations volleying to and fro. The common people seem to be fed up with these allegations and counter allegations, and according to a recent survey, many educated people in cities like Delh, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Hyderabad have stopped watching news channels.
"Whenever you switch on the news channel, especially English news channel you see only personal allegations and abuse being hurled at each other. Tell me honestly, which politician is clean in India ? Every one has sinned, but simply throwing stones sitting in glass houses...isn't it ridiculous?" says a college professor from a prestigious education institution in Bangalore.
He is right. Look at the recent war of words consuming TV channel's prime time.
Modi calls the Prime Minister of this country 'Maun Mohan Singh', and the former CM of Himachal Pradesh Virbhadra Singh as 'Vir Brasht Singh'
Minutes lates, a lesser known Congress leader terms Narendra Modi as 'Narhantak Modi'
Now whose time is wasted in this debate, if it can be called a debate in the first place? Both parties are sailing in the same boat, so why this personal attack? Do such remarks suit a man who has been projected as the future Prime Minister of this county ?
The same Modi calls Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Tharoor a 'Rs 50 crore girlfriend', making an extreme personal attack. Shashi Tharoor took the comment head-on, stating that his wife was priceless.
The next day Congress party's 'Notorious' spokesperson Digvijaya Singh hit back at the Gujarat CM saying, 'What about Modi's wife?'
Are these senior leaders of national parties entertaining people with these kind of cheap statements, or do they think their job is to only hurl abuses at each other and compete for the prime time space?
In general 'UPA II is most corrupt government after independece' says BJP and it further adds 'Congress is completely drowned in corruption'. Congress hits back saying 'What right does BJP have to call UPA or Congress corrupt, when its own head is fully drowned in corruption !"
Is it not throwing stones at each other sitting in glass houses ?
In Karnataka, when Congress leader S M Krishna arrived back in state, he was received with a rousing welcome. Former CM Sadananda Gowda criticised Krishna saying he is now 80-plus, and it was time for him to rest. Congress leader B L Shankar retorted "What about L K Advani? How old is he ? Why are you not advising him to take rest ?"
It would perhaps be better if all politicians could rest once and for all..!
For the benefit of the country and its common people, it would be advisable for political leaders to stop accusing and abusing at personal levels and have healthy debates on development of this country and take the nation forward. But then, that would perhaps be detrimental to the prime time on news channels and take the zing out of politics!
