Himachal has 1,162 Visually Impaired Electors


Shimla, Nov 2 (IANS): Himachal Pradesh has 1,162 visually impaired electors, of a total electorate of 46 lakh, a poll official said here Friday, adding that the Election Commission had made special provisions for them.

"Only 36 are Braille-conversant voters," state Chief Electoral Officer Narinder Chauhan told IANS. Of the 1,162, 364 are 100 percent visually impaired.

Kangra, the largest district in the state, has the highest number of 415 registered visually impaired electors.

The commission has set up 7,253 polling stations in the state, including 763 hypersensitive, to enable 46,08,359 voters to exercise their franchise Nov 4.
