Mangalore, Nov 1: 'Munni' a short film in Konkani directed by Vinod Gangolli and produced under the banner of Blessed Joseph Vas Centre, Gangolli, will release on November 14, on the occasion of Children's Day.
The 25-minute film is a poignant narration about an underprivileged girl who is forced to work while other children of her age seek education. It is a heart-rending story that intends to create social awareness on child labour.
Monica, known by her loved ones as Munni, is a little girl who is supposed to go to school, but instead poverty traps her into child labour.
She is a bright student hailing from a poor family. Her father, an alcoholic does not take responsibility to look after the family and his daughter's education. Instead, he gives her away as a maid to a family and abruptly stops sending her to school. Her mother, who has no say in the family, rolls bidis for a living. The film then moves on to narrate how Munni's life changes after the intervention of a school teacher.
Director Vinod Gangolli has also written the script. He has earlier produced and directed a short film on the life of Blessed Joseph Vas and a Kannada documentary on the Parables of Christ.
The film will be uploaded on YouTube and the link will be provided on media partner Daijiworld.com.
