DK Rajyotsava Honour for 19 - Gatti, Dr Ronald, Aziz Among Awardees

Mangalore, Oct 31: Litterateurs K T Gatti and Aziz Baikampady, and journalist Dr Ronald Fernandes have been chosen for the Dakshina Kannada district Rajyotsava Awards this year.
Addressing a press conference held at his office, deputy commissioner Dr N S Channappa Gowda said that the DK district Kannada Rajyotsava Award 2012 will be conferred on 19 achievers this year.

The other award winners are Shantharam Acharya Kalladka (literature), Prof S Prabhakar Ujire (education), Puttur Shreedhar Bhandary, Prakash Karanth Narikombu (Yakshagana), Shreedhar Bhat, Mahabala Poojary Kadambodi (social service), Rohini Subbarathnam Kanchana (music), Jeevan Ram Sullia (theatre), Lokaiah Sere (folk), Edward Taccode (Agriculture), Mohan Sonangeri (art), Sharada Mani Shekar (dance), Ashok Vardhan (environment), Ramakrishna Ashram (organization), Gayathri Navada (research), Kodipady Narayana Jois (religion and culture).
Special awards will be given to Sahana Poojary and Sadananda Prabhu for their achievements in sports.
The DC informed that the committee to select the achievers for the award consisted of personalities like Dr Mohan Alva, Mangala Naik, MCC commissioner Harish Kumar, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, ADC Dayanand and the DC himself.
The award will be handed over to the achievers on the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations at Nehru Maidan on Thursday November 1.
As against 45 Dakshina Kannada district Rajyotsava Awards given away last year, this year the number of awards have been limited to 19. It may be recalled that a hue and cry was raised for giving away the prestigious award to many people.
