Vinay Kumar Sorake Back to State Politics?
Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur
Puttur, Oct 29: Former two-time Congress MP from Udupi and current AICC secretary Vinay Kumar Sorake is planning a comeback in state politics, say reliable sources.
A vibrant leader who was active in politics right from his student life, Sorake was a strong contender for the MP seat from Mangalore constituency. But the death of young Congress leader Bondala Jagannath Shetty has created a void in Puttur constituency. Lack of other vibrant Congress leaders in Puttur has forced Sorake to think and come back to state poltics, say his friends.
If Sorake does so, he will be the MLA candidate for Puttur constituency, which could stir up an interesting battle in the Karnataka political arena as former CM Sadananda Gowda has expressed his willingness to contest for the MLA seat from Puttur under his BJP party ticket.
It may be recalled that Sorake had shifted his base from Puttur to Udupi after losing to Sadanada Gowda by a very thin margin. Later, he took active interest in national-level politics and won Udupi Lok Sabha seat twice, before the BJP waves washed Congress away from Udupi constituency.
According to another report, Sorake's 'homecoming' is certain, but he might contest from Puttur or Beltangady. "He has a bright chance of becoming minister in state if Congress comes to power," says a Congress worker from Beltangady.
A close supporter of Sorake says, former Karnataka CM S M Krishna's plan to come back to Karnataka has inspired Sorake to bring Congress back to power in the state as Sorake and Krishna are known to share good rapport.
When daijiworld contacted Sorake, he neither confirmed the news nor denied it.
