Bantwal, Oct 22: Former MLA T Shakuntala Shetty, who has been away from BJP for many years, threw a surprise on Monday October 22 when she met deputy chief minister R Ashok during his visit to the taluk.
When R Ashok arrived at the proposed site for the new KSRTC bus stand for an inspection, Shakuntala Shetty approached him and both immersed in a prolonged talk. She later posed for the lensmen with BJP district president Padmanabha Kottari and other leaders.
A leader in the party told daijiworld that unlike in the past, this time Shakuntala Shetty reportedly agreed to join BJP unconditionally.
The leader also added that a once-blunt Shetty, who used to say that she would even join Congress or JD(S) if she were given a ticket to contest in the coming assembly elections, has now compromised her stand and is ‘almost’ in the party’s fold.
It may be recalled here that last month she was seen at a JD(S) function which was addressed by JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy, sparking speculations of her joining the JD(S).
Shakuntala Shetty had been expelled from the BJP for anti-party activities in 2008 after she was denied the ticket to contest from Puttur. However, in the past few months, she has been reportedly approached by both Congress and JD(S). Earlier this month, reports were also rife about former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa asking her to join his yet-to-be launched party.
